In recent times, here on our side too, apologists for autocratic or even dictatorial solutions, praising and calling for coups, have emerged without any shame, stripped of any modesty. Without subterfuge, they show themselves to be idolaters of despots and tyrants - sometimes proudly, almost in a professorial pose, other times, one or the other under the aureole of an expert, perhaps an intellectual "in the know", even under the invocation of foundations supposedly based on history, culture or manipulating feelings and arguments of identity or of a serous nationalism.
Bloody dictators are even called "anti-imperialists". It would be laughable if it weren't a cause for attention, caution and some concern.
A mixture of ignorance, uncultivation, shallow cleverness and villainy also seeking to take advantage of difficulties, uncertainties, disappointments or misunderstandings, all signs that should lead lovers of freedom, liberties and democracy to be alert and aligned in continuous pedagogy, in the determined struggle for the values and solutions that we embraced more than three decades ago.
For the culture of democracy, for the rule of law, for the improvement of institutions, practices and attitudes, for permanent criticism, let us resist now so that we can win later.
Let's give them - these heralds and propagandists of aggression, of false charismatic leaders, of tyranny and coup d'état - a serious, competent and persevering fight!
